S.C.U.B.A.

In my last post I told about how I have gotten into scuba diving. Then I realized that everyone might not know what that means. S.C.U.B.A. stands for Self Contained Underwater Breathing Apparatus.

There are several different methods of scuba diving but the most common and what most people think of when they think of scuba diving is an apparatus that is self contained meaning that it needs no attachment to the surface. It is a tank of air that is a mixture of gases but is primary nitrogen and oxygen. That goes from the tank to a regulator that controls how much air is released into the lungs and mouth at one time.

This device was invented by underwater film maker Jaques Coustoe.
