Your control bar and lines is what allows you to control the kite. If you have ever flown a trick kite it works on the smae principle just on a slightly more intense scale.
The lines are generally 25 meters long and made from parachute cord. They are really hard and strong so if you are ever in an emergency don't plan on breaking them or tearing them or cutting them. But there is a fail safe system within the rigging set up. It is hard to explain without showing you but basically you let go of the bar. All the tention is put on one side of the kite and it falls down as do you.
